Observing it All
Here is one from last year's visit to Mt. Evans to capture the utterly astonishing scale of our galaxy. The 14,000 ft peak itself is open to motor traffic (paved the whole way) during the summer months, and while amazing in the day, my favorite time to visit is from sunset to sunrise. This particular night was a window of opportunity where the galactic center would be in view, and the moon well below the horizon for most of the night. The foreground lighting on the rocks and observatory was the very faint, but orange glow of Denver, roughly 26 miles away.
